  • @Rick2010100 Well your right and the German goverment is wrong, I bow down to your Superior knowledge

  • The music is lovely, written by Haydn, I believe. The words, typical of any national anthem. Brotherhood, justice, equality...etc....all very normal. I do not know when the anthem changed but can only assume post WWII, but understand why. Indeed, in Germany, now, I do believe that to refer to or play or sing the anthem, the old one, might be against the law...as it is to deny that the Shoah ever existed. Let us face it...Germany tried, 2x, to 'Napoleonize' Europe, and failed. Lovely art, though.

  • @Rick2010100 Thanks! I never knew that.

  • @sojournsongster2540 Nothing from this song is actually forbidden, only after WW2 the Allied´s banned the whole song between 1945-1949. As they recognised, that the song was the anthem of the former democratic Republic and not the Nazi anthem, they quickly re-allowd the song. But actually only the 3. verse is the athem, because the besungen rivers in the 2nd verse doesent belong anymore to Germany. E.G. whole East-and Westprussia is now part of Poland, Latvia and Russia.

  • @RadekBoktor The grammar in this song also works in English, because after the above all in the world follws a Comma and and the text goes on with: WHEN, for protection and defence, it always takes a brotherly stand together. So the context of the above is clearly explained. Also the meaning of the World is in German multiple used and does not mean the wohle earth. E.g. : He lives in his own world; The world is to small for me, etc.

  • @RadekBoktor Oh, I see. I thought this was written before them. I can see it could be taken the wrong way when it says Germany above everything else.

  • @sojournsongster2540 Because it says that the germans are better than everyone else, (the nazis considered the Aryan race to be better than everyone else).

  • I like this anthem and I don't understand why some verses are forbidden.
