Bangladesh is one of the world's most densely populated countries, with its people crammed into a delta of rivers that empties into the Bay of Bengal.
Poverty is deep and widespread; almost half of the population lives on less than one dollar a day. Many people are landless and forced to live on flood-prone land; water-borne diseases are widespread on the surface water especially of fishing areas.
Due to poverty and the spread of diseases this leaves many children as orphans. Traveling to Bangladesh four years ago I was able to witness the pain and suffering some orphans were going through.
Human Aid UK has embarked on a project which supports an orphanage which currently depends on local donations to survive. The school turned orphanage has over 150 orphans in their care.
Human Aid UK is an international charity, which aims to alleviate the suffering of the world's poorest people. It is an independent Non-Governmental Organisation founded in the UK in 2004.
Since Human Aid was only founded in 2004, it has had little time to become a well-recognized charity. The charity is currently using social media, charity dinners, and the local radio station to promote its work. The money would allow the charity to continue publicize the charities good work through better media awareness and regular charity dinners without heavily relying on donations. The money would also allow me to give up my part time job so that I can focus on becoming a qualified engineer.
