  • Make no mistake. The lyrics of Nas are the ONLY rap lyrics worth prolonged future study for other reasons than narrow Hip-Hop interest and basic slang history. His works tower over all other late 20th century rap as Shakespeare's did his contemporaries - and will be seen as such by future generations.

In short: He is the best.

I'm not dismissing others as lyricists, I am saying that outside the realm of Hip-Hop and rap fans, Nas will be the one people generations from now will genuinely be interested in studying from a literary/poetry perspective. Specifically, Illmatic.
