Student's Journey - Skip to my Lou

I was sitting around practicing the frailing strum on open G for about twenty minutes when I decided I needed a break. I thought, what better than skip to my lou? How can you play the banjo and NOT know that one?

Good, man. You can frail & sing simultaneously, that is great. I've given up on it. It was either one or the other that would suffer in attempts to accompany myself, so, since neither are strong points at this juncture (voice or playing), I chose frailing. Keep it up.

Thank you, you are definately correct about that, it is challenging to do both, and as you can see I have room for improvement. I have to keep it super simple or the rhythm falls apart.

I like a challenge though, so off I go!

Yeah it is really hard but (cliché:) practice makes perfect... I had a hard time singing and playing the guitar at the same time too but now I can do relatively easy songs.. Hope I'll get it with the banjo too.

By the way: girls really DO seem to get the hang of this simultanious stuff quicker...

cool man, i've just about mastered this one thanks to the wisdom of patrick costello. i've only been playing for a bit but it's been lots of fun. still having trouble singing and frailing
