A family of the canoe, Ohana Wa'a, understood that their kuleana was that of hana'i parents to a living cultural artifact, Hokule'a. Albeit a replica of the first artifact of their ancestors, the first people, everyone who came to care for her, provided nurturing and comfort with Aloha, mele, oli and hula, and for that, we have been called heathens. With strength from ohana like Boogie, Buff, Billy, Shorty, John, Dukie, Clifford, Sam and the second crew of 1976, all we have is Ha, the breath of life for anyone in need.
Haha Moke ahhhh didn't meet him till late in life, although back in day SO was his fellow player of music. How I remember was always sheet in front of him for picks plays for the weekend. What a wonderful man than ..... as they played music outside..he created the first keiki surf. To this day someone that wasn't that good of boogie board - moved to ID and now just back still has his trophy and is 30 years old. What a great man.....wish I could say more.

So sad to hear of the passing of Boogie. We talked much of the first voyage of the Hokulea. He gave me a new insight from the National Geographic and PVC glorified tales or of Ben Finney's book "Hokulea Journey to Tahiti". It is a real loss for such people go with out their stories documented.

Eh Aloha Ohana Wa'a, Mahalo's for the tribute! Uncle Boogie has been an awesome inspiration for so many. What sets him apart is his musical talent & spiritual well-being that all of the great ones possessed. Mahalo. Moke Young
