The most common question that I get asked by new hunters is, "How do I field dress a deer if I shoot one?" Well, hopefully this video helps you out! While many people feel this type of content is 'gross' or 'disgusting', it is also what responsible hunters do after recovering and tagging the animal. This clip is included as bonus footage on the Season 1 DVD.

  • Instead of reaching both arms up to the deers trachea, why don't you just cut the rib cage apart? When I was taught to gut a deer, that is how I do it and it seems like it is loads easier. I have never thought to wear gloves when gutting. That is a pretty good idea. All you have to do for clean up is take the gloves off.

  • @jtschid0910 Good point. I know guys who cut all the way up. I haven't been able to make that work very well without using a small saw. That's one more tool to clean. I've been doing it this way for years and it works for me. Others have their own methods that work for them.

  • Loved the video. If I get a buck this year I'll be refering to your method of cutting an inch out before starting.

  • @Demrush Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you can get some use out of the video. Good luck in the woods!

  • If you hit the liver when you bowhunt, will it be a lethal shot? Will the deer bleed out or what?

  • @jtschid0910 Thanks for the comment. I've had mixed results and generally give a liver hit 6 hours before tracking. Some will say that it is lethal and I have had it work, but I do not want a liver hit and try for the heart/lung area.

  • @realhuntingtv I have found it works fairly well using a knife, but if it works for you thats the only thing that matters.

  • @realhuntingtv nice! and dont forget to bring some plastic zip ties to tie off the intestines when using the butt out, you wont be let down it works perfectly

  • @1gamoguy I got the butt out tool as a gift last year. I'll try it out this season. This was an archery hunt...AR 34, CX 300, Magnus Stinger 100gr 4 blade.

  • @1gamoguy Not only have I seen undressed deer on vehicles, I'm also seeing them that way on television. That is irresponsible in my opinion as many new hunters may "do it the way they saw on TV." I have pickled hearts the past couple years. I like the flavor and the texture. With 2 boys in the house it doesn't last long.
