foolin' around on my Digital Mellotron M4000D - Harpsichord MkII Setting.
Although the Beatles didn't use the Mellotron on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, this Mello Setting sounds fairly similar. (they used a Lowrey DSO Heritage Deluxe Organ).
this setting is also very cool for Dobro-like slides.

  • Hi FunkyMonk,

as long, as you compare to the unlooped Nord Samples (NOT the standard size looped!) the sound is very similar, but there are of course some differences. on the M4000D is a "Mellotron M400" Mode, which is sort of an EQ, cuts the highs and so on, you would use the EQ on the Nord for more or less the same effect.

and of course, you havent got no mixing possibilites, no pitch, no tone, no dynamic keyboard on the Nord. I'd say: go for it!

  • Hello -- I was wondering how your 4000D is doing? Markus told Big City Music for those of us who ordered in the USA that he'd ship in Jan, but has delayed for software issues, and we are all waiting patiently, but I know those who ordered direct have their instruments already. Are you experiencing any problems or software issues to speak of?

  • @danox574

Hi Dano,I love it to death. I know, the long wait killed me too, but its really worth. I still have sort of a Beta Sowftware in it, I'll meet Markus at the MusikMesse in Frankfurt (April) where I'll get the software updates, and hopefully all missing sounds.

  • how does the M4000 compare to Nord samples ? Thanks for sharing the vid

  • @thecaveofthedead

You don't need a computer, you don't have any CPU/RAM usage and you can play with it on a stage. And no loading times for the samples.

  • I've always thought someone should make a software effect called a "Mellotronizer" that makes everything sound like it's being played from a .......well....you know.

Bet it would sell quite well.

  • Hey. What are the advantages of this hardware mellotron over a software simulator?

  • this would be the instrument to play while acid trippin hahah
