On the 28/29 June and 5/6 July the Severn Valley Railway held their very popular 1940s weekends.
The flood damage the railway suffered in 2007 confined that years event to the southern end of the line but 2008 saw the return to the full 16 miles and 6 stations.
Most of the stations hosted displays including army vehicles, bands and a vintage bus tour despite the danger from unexploded bombs.
There were plenty of re-enactors dressed in all manner of costumes, from Generals to a miner and ARP wardens to evacuees and anyone with the urge to join in could buy an outfit from one of several sales tents around the railway.

At 1pm each day a gun battle was staged around Highley station, with the Germans capturing the station on the first weekend and the allies retaking it the following week. Sadly the allied victory on the final day coincided with the mother of all rain showers so the big finish was rather cut short and Prime Minister Churchill delivered his speech from under an umbrella.

The video is a mix of shots from the two Sundays and is set to "Little Brown Jug" by Glenn Miller.
