  • @runeski74 yeah, buddy is one of the coolest welders I've worked with.

  • quick question.... what kind of rods do they mainly use on pipeline?.... do they tig the root?..... i know most refinery welding is tig root and hot pass and 7018 fillers and cap.

  • @gilberto83 on most jobs they mainly use lincoln 8010 rods for the root (bead), hot pass, fill and cap. The size and type of rod changes depending on the type of job though. New lays are usually the 8010's but i've seen them use Low Hy for spool ins.

  • Is that regular goggles with a custom made protective shield in front of it?

  • @260160nl No, that's a regular welding hood called a pancake. You can usually find them anywhere for less than 100 bucks.

  • may i ask how much do these guys make?

  • @LowkeyallLove these guys are paid very well because they are absolutely great at what they do. Usually about $16,000 per month, but i've been on jobs where they make close to $20k per month. But it's dangerous work and i've seen men killed.

  • Good stuff brother!

  • buddy is burnin them rods!

  • how do you get on the pipline to weld? iv been working at get my certs for A while now and im almost done..just wanting to know a lil info on getting work on the pipelines

  • Sounds like no muffler and the engine is under load. More than likely a old version Lincoln 200 , set up with adjusted exciter brushes for burning 6010 to 7010 weldng rods. The sound of welding.

I had my fill of pipeline welding all over Alberta Province for several years, down in muddy ditches doing Tie in welds( pain in the ass conditions)

I prefer the refinery pipe fabrication work were you do something different every day and get creative. Pipeline work is challenging, but too repetitive.

  • Working outdoors it keeps the glare out? Good.
