This is the trailer for Masakazu Ito's second volume in his "My Repertoire" video series. In Volume II, Masa performs Fernando Sor's Magic Flute Variations, Opus 9. Following his performance, extensive analysis is provided in a master class setting.
Do you want to play Sor's challenging variations well? Are you questioning your effectiveness, especially in the difficult passages? Would you make faster progress with expert guidance? If so, this essential volume belongs in your library.
The master class includes 77 minutes of comprehensive, insightful instruction, approximately 90 minutes of material in all. Masa carefully examines every part of Sor's famous composition, measure by measure. Sheet music is provided with the DVD in high-resolution PDF format, with extensive fingering edits by Ito. Follow his musical analysis effortlessly using the interactive score; observe his technique up close with new picture-in-a-picture content.
Focus is placed on isolation strategies and other learning techniques all students benefit from, regardless of level. Masa emphasizes the fundamental importance of playing in time, and much consideration is given to interpreting Sor's intentions, particularly in the challenging passages. Alternative approaches are examined closely, including Segovia's interpretation. Much time is dedicated to fingering, shifts and appoggiatura, techniques needed to play Sor's Magic Flute successfully.
Masakazu Ito is recognized as one of today's top guitarists, acclaimed by musicians, composers, conductors and critics for his mastery of the instrument and its repertoire. Ito is an international performer, teacher, composer and recording artist. He currently holds a teaching position at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, where he received a master's degree under the guidance of Ricardo Iznaola.
I just finished my initial pass through it all and I'm very pleased with this production. The amount of information packed into this thing is amazing, filled with valuable insights and great advice. Thank you!
