Thats because radios are now controlled by companies and stock holders due to the Telecommunications act. Radio used to have a balance because it was mostly a democracy, songs got played because they were requested, now every radio station has a set playlist that they cannot deviate from. They have complete and total control over the radio. The thing is, all those crappy bands are nowhere near as popular as they seem.

...we are in a digital utopia - Billy is just ticked because he can't stay on top of it - he's assuming that he's producing the same quality of music he was back when he was popular - he isn't - people vote with their feet these days - we don't need to have crap rammed down our throats anymore on the radio - we have unlimited access - and he has to deal with that...
