  • This is an autobiography loosely based on craig's real life. Raina for example was based on many females he'd had relationships with. It's about his spiritual journey. The scene where he was molested was pivitol. It was very important to the story, the emotions and the conflict. It's yet another example of hypocracy and it shows a broken trust between parents- who you should trust most The ending wasn't cliche at all. I didn't see it coming at all. It's about self discovery and religious truth.

  • Ok thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if it was straight up autobiographical. Or if it was semi biographical like "In god we trust all others must pay cash". Or if it was completley fictional like Bruce Cambell's one book.

  • Why do you say "main character"?

    This is an autobiography.

  • It's not relaly clear wether this is or isn't.

  • @blowshimselfupdude Its an autobiography

  • I love this book <3

  • Also, the depiction of teenage Christians based on Craig's experience is not typical of all Christian camps. Considering that you have not been to one, I wouldn't make that kind of generalization. It definitely is not an "accurate" depiction. That's not to say that sure, some boys probably do talk about girls at Christian camps. But that is not representative of it, therefore making it "accurate."

  • I don't think that Craig's depiction of child molestation was there for shock value whatsoever. Because the novel is autobiographical and it's a coming-of-age story, it is necessary to describe his youth with those kinds of raw, honest experiences. It probably wasn't the easiest experience to write or even draw about, but he does it because it is part of his adolescent journey. Also, Craig draws upon the molestation experience to remember how he had not protected his younger brother.

  • i read this book the first time when i had just turned 28 and was in a relationship that was similar too it in many ways. it's sort of a really mature relationship in a lot of ways. kind of immature in their age but they deal with a lot of really mature things in mature ways. i don't think it's a book just for teens. definitely relatable later in life.

  • best book in the world.

  • well in the catcher in the rye his little brother has died.

  • yeah I read that too that this was an autobiography.

  • God how old is this book?
