It's no coincidence that his name is Valentin. This movie is a valentine to Hollywood at the end of silents and the beginning of talkies. A silent, B&W, 3/4 ratio movie about silent, B&W, 3/4 ratio movies. And it took the French to come to Hollywood and make this. They taught us (Americans) how to do it. You helped us win the War of Independence, gave us the Statue of Liberty, and now The Artist. Merci !!!
