@hellasow The Catholic Church has since dealt with the procedure. However, everyone loves to jump on them and say they should have done this or that. All I have to say is this: take a look back in your own family tree and start asking questions about how they dealt with things back in the day. Don't sit here and think it is logically acceptable to apply a standard from another time era to today or vise versa.
@hellasow Science matures; neuroscience tells us about the deeply rooted behavioral patterns and that they are not likely to stop (because a person is not likely able to change their inclinations). What SHOULD be of interest is how the Catholic Church has tightened up its screening procedures so much that it is possibly the tightest in the world. Those fixated on sexually centered lives or identities are not allowed to enter the seminary. HUGE DROP in cases. 8 out of 44,000 priests in 2008.
@hellasow a) Their costumes reflect traditional dress of the time of the original, pre-biblical church. b) moral bullshit: you can attempt to explain this one. c) Higher standard: I agree. d) Practice of transferring priests to other churches, and not going public: 1:hold these actions to the standard actions of the times. Back in the day, NOBODY was outing uncle Bobby, or the fact that he was touching his nephews.2:sexual deviancy was seen to be "curable" by the body of science of the time.
@TheLogicalPosition I see you posted this question to yourself but i will answer it. The catholic church is extravagant with their moral bullshit parading around in their costumes. I would think most catholics would hold popes, bishops, and priest up to a higher moral standard themselves...Its the immoral behavior of hiding priest and bishops for that can molest other kids as standard procedure that got all the attention.
@TheLogicalPosition John Jay Institute's report:...hmm a highly religious entity would have not motive at all to sku their results. Questions persist about the reliability...DID the researchers rely principally on reporting by bishops? Do you see a self interest?
@TheLogicalPosition My question to you is this: with 4 out of 5 assaults on males, how come not a word is said about same-sex sexuality attractions? Does it not raise any questions why it is the Catholic Church that is primarily targeted, especially when this is a tragic phenomena that exists in all professions, including other branches of Christianity? Does this not indicate that the Catholic Church is some form of threat in what it teaches? To me, I see no other way to interpret it.
@hellasow According to the the John Jay Institute's report: The Catholic figures show that between about 4% of priests and deacons serving in the US between 1950 and 2002 had been accused of sexual abuse of someone under 18. In this country, the figure was a 10th of that: 0.4% But whereas the victims in the general population are overwhelmingly female, the pattern among American Catholic priests was quite different. Four out of five of their victims were male.
@TheLogicalPosition Ok i am sure you have a credible source for that info you just spewed out. (but i would be willing to bet against it) The point of my comment was since many christians/catholics claim to get their morals from their bible. Since the bible does not discuss molesting little kids as far as i know. How would a catholic priest know if molesting little kids is wrong?
