This location, close to the heart of Glasgow, is where Glasgow's commercal activities commenced in the 18th century, principally through exchanging American grown tobacco for manufactured goods from the growers or agents and then selling on, mainly to the French market.
The Merchant City area is now well established as an upscale locale providing a wide range of facilities including accommodation, shopping, culture (arts venues and galleries), architecture and dining.
