  • I came to watch this because I read about it in Silver Spoon by Hiromu Arakawa!

  • This Ban-ei ( Ban = yoke, ei = trail ) horse racing is the legacy of old style cultivation that they used horse or cattle for plowing. In Hokkaido, Japan, they introduced European horses Breton, Percheron and Belgian rather than using small Japanese horses. These are very powerful kinds and often crossbred for more power.

  • @pimpaum1234 Hey me too xD

  • i think this is so stupid poor horses

  • they sure beat em up durin the race dont they...

  • Why do they hack and yank on their mouths so much before beating them?? Seems like the horse is getting mixed signals.... I'd have flipped out if I was one of the horses... just goes to show you they are gentle giants....

  • When I read some of the comments I find it amazing how little it takes to draw out the racists. Do a little reading on what is happening now (2010-11) to thousands and thousands of horses in Ireland. Which is more cruel, racing draft horses or abandoning them to starve to death in the winter?

  • I bet they break down less than the two year old tbs Americans throw onto the track.

I'm not saying it's right, but you all look stupid getting all righteous and screaming about the Japanese not respecting animals when we race babies in the US, and what about steeple chasing in Europe? That's pretty ugly too.

Or the recent race in Australia where only two horses finished the jump race, and one of the four that wrecked jumped into a crowd and injured seven.

  • that was sad :(

  • Gather up all the animals in Japan. Put them on a safe island. then drop an atom bomb on everyone left. Fuck Japan.

  • WTF?? Why are y'all Japaneses so cruel with animals, man?

  • ah ok... and in englisch...

you compensate ugly appearance, short stature and small dicks with cruelty to animals! But you can say: punishment you get by Hiroshima! Cheers

  • Ach ja... wir kompensieren hässliches Aussehen, Kleinwüchsigkeit und besonders kleine Schwänze mit Tierquälerei - aber sagen wir mal so Hiroshima gibt es ja immer noch - sowas!

  • Those horses are Percherons (their french name). They are strong, powerful and good-tempered horses.

BUT WHY OH WHY DO THOSE STUPID JOCKEYS pull the reins LIKE THAT??????? Jesus, man! No need to pull like that, let the horse pull the sledge, for Christ sake!!!!

How do you expect your horse to pull properly if you leave him no space for back legs AND, in the same time, pull the reins like hell?

Definetely a totally stupid and pointlessly violent way to lead a horse...

  • Pulling the reins brutally & reckless beating even for the ones that have already lost the race - stupid bastards... :(

  • What the HELL?! Why do they have to pull so hard on the reins?!? Some of them were leaning all the way back!

  • FUCKING JAPANESE IDIOTS!!!

  • boring

  • Awesome!

  • these people are just sick and sucks like shit-i hope they will burn in hell

  • WTF? Yes we all know these horses were bred for heavy work but this shit is stupid. Can you imagine how much it must suck for these horses to drag 800-1000 pounds on a sled through deep sand with some little Jap behind you beating you on the ass with leather and pulling on your mouth??

  • that is horrible i know yhey are bred for it but they just dont look right their legs dont bend proberly they can get a diformaty from that STUPID japanesse or chinesse

  • I bet they hav sore mouths Try giving them more room 4 ther back legs 2 push with

  • The origin of Ban-ei racing was fun race by the owners of those "Ban-ba"(= yoked horses), and it grew into stake race. Today, in the age of mechanization, farmers don't need power animals and the racing course of Ban-ei is the only place for Ban-ba to show their natural power. In the races of strongest class, horses often weigh over 1000kg and trail 800-1000kg sledge on deep sand.
