How much boxing do they really show in the movie? Not much right? It's not like in Rocky where they show long sequences of boxing fights. Just because the main character is a boxer doesn't mean the film could be labeled as a 'boxing movie'. It's a story about a tragic man who tries to fight his inner demons.

@cleemenza It's not a boxing movie? Christ it's supposed to be a biographical story on the life of Jake la Motta, former middleweight champion of the world, when a champion WAS a champion. How much more of a boxing movie can you get? It is so inaccurate and so far removed from the truth that it makes even Rocky appear probable!

it's not really a boxing movie, it's a character study of a deeply disturbed man who can't handle his inner conflicts and who takes out his frustration on the people around him.

As an opera buff I love Mascagni's music. As a boxing follower, I believe this was one of the worste movies I have ever seen!

The biggest mistake the Academy ever made was not choosing this Film as best picture 1980

The best thing about this movie is this opening theme. The rest of the movie is MEH...

@Kato00a Richard Rush deserved best director for THE STUNT MAN. Not that any of this means anything...and ORDINARY PEOPLE was a damn good movie...
Possibly one of those films you could call Perfect, thank you Scorcese and De Niro.
