I just finished my transcription of Allan Holdsworths Solo over the Song "On the Frozen Lake" from the great fusion album "Heavy Machinery" by Jens and Anders Johansson. So i just felt i had to give it a try, its still fresh and the performance has some edges but i like it so far. Besides Allans extraterrestrian phrasing and sense of rhythm, he has a unique and subtle tone, which i tried to copy as good as i could (in a sudden outbreak of blasphemy). Beautiful music, learned a lot...

  • Very nice! I think that tapping part is two finger picking thing with a bar or open string. Great job though! I couldn't play it! LOL!

  • @aryuserius could be! Some phrasings had some inherent fretboard logic but others... ;) you never know. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • great man!! just great; and the guitar is awsome too!! freak!! hahaha.

  • I don't like the tone and the playing sounds sketchy; need a bassier tone and to work on basic technique.

  • Great job!

Can you upload the tab for it?

  • Ich mags! C:

  • holy shit good job dude!!!!!

  • good!!!

  • Awesome guitar!!! i love Mattias!

  • great job... but you have more sweat than Allan Holdsworth has :)

  • @RobiWKenobi I've seen Allan do that lick a number of times, and he does use two strings for it. However, one of the greatest sources for new ideas is to cop a lick, but not get it exactly the same, and your different interpretation on it will then springboard onto other new ideas that veer away from the same things Allan (or whoever) would think of.

Do you have a chart of your transcription that you could post?
