On September 14, 2008 Hurricane Ike hit Louisville, Kentucky with wind gusts up to 75-80 miles an hour.
We had no idea at the time just how extensive the damage was across the city. We were lucky enough to have our power back the next afternoon, but hundreds of thousands of people across the city and state were without power for the better part of a week ... some two. Schools were closed for the entire week because of no power.
why do people have to drive around when all lights are off- signal lights and winds are still high?? its obvious they are just sight seeing but , a car coming around the corner could have hit and hurt them....just stay put people!! your powers out just like all,,,nothings that important to die for, being a paramedic i see a bunch of ya do this all the time --just stay put!! in ur home, do you really need to be out with idiot drivers??

It's funny how you say "I cant believe there are kids out on bicycles" We went through Gustav here in Baton Rouge and ppl played in it and mostly sat on their front porch. BR had sustained at 60 and gusts to near 90 for about 4 hours. I guess when your used to the cane's it's not a huge deal, unless it's higher than a cat 3 or so.
Nice footage! Glad you guys made it through safely!
