i dont care if people snag most of the times if they are there to limit out there going to no matter what. plus the salmon die anyways they should make a snagging season for the late salmon season when you catch the white ones for smoking.

@Jackdaniels3333 If the fish have already laid their eggs then snagging makes more sense. However, if you talk to anybody who has studied the ecosystem for any length of time they will argue that when the fry hatch they need the nutrients of the dying salmon to thrive on until they reach a decent size, and hopefully make it to the ocean.

Cunningham, I don't think that you have thought this through. A. I have never met a person that liked gill-netting -- or thought it was okay. Like most people I believe that gill-netting is wrong. B. Direct me to the site that says close to 90% of catch and release fish die of exhaustion - therefore it's only a ruse by Fish & Game to generate revenue. C. It appears that you think that snagging game fish (yanking a huge treble hook through the water) is ok. If that's true, you should be fired.

Stupid people? You fit the profile, VITIC! If snagging were suddenly legal then in a matter of two -- to three seasons the salmon runs in the pacific northwest would vanish -- as they have in China, which used to have bountiful salmon runs -- but no more. Stupid people have a lack of foresight. These people should be deported, not to another country, but another galaxy, where they won't stink up the place- people like VITIC, an ignorant fool who would pave Yellowstone park if he had the chance.

@Jackdaniels3333 You know what amazes me these same people complain how bad snaggers are but don't ever mention what happens to the fish after the eggs and spawn are taken out of them or about how sporting it is to buy salmon at the store with their dollar bills that were netted and I mention this netting happens before they spawn also! It really should not matter how so much as just taking what you consume. I wonder how much really is wasted by those judging others day to day.

@paganwulff Yeh i dont want them snagged before they spawn; however, im sure there is plenty of dead ones floating around from the 1st and 2nd runs =). most of the salmon turn into catfish and sturgen food lol.

The Indians are netting fish by the thousands.... Place regulations on them and yes good point try to pressure keeping first fish caught if!!!! Snagging really is that much of an injury risk .... Point being its just another way for the government to write a damn ticket

you shouldnt even be allowed to salmon fish that far up river, and especially not with baits or spin gear. tats just disgusting and a perfect example of missmanaging a wildlife system. unlike the Atlantic salmon, these salmon will die after spawning making them much more delicate and easy to kill. if you cant catch a non respawning salmon within the first 10miles of where the river meets the ocean you shouldnt be ale to catch them at all. jsut makes sense

Salmon absolutely WILL eat when they are up river. I know this to be a FACT because they have swallowed my bait many times.

@steelheadstocker i agree there is no sport in snagging, and will openly say it will never be my style, watch my vids and theres clear proof i am a sportsman, but the problem is rooted far deeper, overpopulation in our country is the problem, too many people, not enough jobs = people starving = people snagging food, .... not fisherman snagging fish, alot of people i see snagging are starving, this doesn't make it right, but its a problem we've created
