hello im from scotland but ive just got to say that you americans have one kick ass national anthem. the message is the same as scotlands adopted national anthem flower of scotland (the real one being scotland the brave) singing about the battle we had with the english....and how we fucking won!!!! best version on the net!!! not overdone, yet militaristic and still democratic (in a state form way to say) mainly when the feminine choir kicks in... just beautiful!.. sometimes i wish i was an american, so i could hail with proud my oath to my country's banner every morning.. believe me, that's something most of the people don't give a sh*t about this, but for me, the pride about your homeland, any homeland what it is, is imperative, and that's what we miss the most in here..

alot of people forget that this song was written at a time when americans were fighting for theyr freedom against tyranny....now, when i see the flag of america, i think of tyranny....our government and the people that support it, have destroyed america...this is no longer a land of the free, it is the land of oppressive government and dictatorship...a land where the government is the master, and the people are subjects of the master...the opposite of the america over 200 years ago

Francis Scott Key wrote this song after an all-night British bombardment of Fort McHenry in 1814. He wrote the song as a testimony to the Americans' determination to stand strong against an overwhelming enemy: The British.
