This video is to demonstrate vArranger2 software using one of its supplied auto accompaniment rhythm styles. Notice the tonal quality and stereo profile of the accompaniment. I also use this occasion to test out my wife Diane's newly acquired Roland FR-3 accordion.
This is a very limited demonstration of vArranger2. I do not use that software's treble voices, which are superb. I use only the resident Clarinet orchestral sound of the Roland FR-3. I also play the entire piece using only one accompaniment variation. My reason is because I do not have a multiple pedal control unit to invoke these features. Also, I am a beginning level accordionist and I'm not sure I could handle the extra performance responsibility just yet. Still, I suspect that this video is a good demonstration of what can be done with vArranger2 right at the start by any beginning level accordionist.
This video also demonstrates that although the FR-3 has a slightly smaller treble keyboard and fewer features, it is nonetheless a fine instrument with equal tonal quality to the more expensive FR-7. Simply compare this video to my previous video of "Blue Velvet" where I play using the very same Clarinet voice of the FR-7. Of course the accompaniment is slightly different in that earlier video because different arranger software was used. But the treble voice of the Roland should sound the same in each case. I also find that due to the smaller size and lighter weight, the FR-3 is more comfortable and more manageable than the FR-7. Finally, because the FR-3 has a bellows air resistance control, the bellows action is a lot better. Note that on the new FR-7X Roland added an air resistance control by popular request, but my FR-7 has no such control, and as a result its bellows feels rather stiff. It's been OK once I got used to it, but the bellows action of the FR-3 is definitely preferable to me. Don't get me wrong. I still love my FR-7. But to be honest I must admit to the above advantages of the FR-3.
One noticeable disadvantage of the FR-3 is its inferior speaker quality compared to the FR-7. But that does not really affect Diane or me since we do not use the resident speakers of any of our electronic instruments. We consider such speakers to be mediocre quality for monitoring purposes only. All of my recordings of my FR-7 were made using it's audio output fed directly to a recording device. I never use speakers when recording electronic instruments.
