Here it is. The classic opening of The 10 O' Clock News for WNEW-TV Channel 5 (currently WNYW Fox 5) serving the five boroughs of New York, New Jersey, and Southern Connecticut. I'll see if I can the one with Bill Jorgensen anchoring. Enjoy!

  • One of the most irritating intros ever. I remember this quite vividly.

  • @frkaz911,

    LMAO!

Hell yeah, I can't believe it either, that makes two of us.

  • Hey Y'all I've got a new username. WWOR/Ch 9 is using the 'The 10 O'Clock News title. Channel 5 should do the same thing, plus the theme just like the old days. But the corporations are having their way.

  • @tigerbandalumni--Yeah. This theme here kinda does give off that gritty "Kojak" vibe. But, the original "Kojak" theme (1973-1977) is better than this. NOW, if the show's execs would've thought about a tune like this one for the 5th and "final" season (1977-1978), it really would have been a perfect way for Lt. Theo to exit the crazy & great 1970's NYC. But it didn't work out that way.

5th season of "Kojak" was still good, though.

  • That's HOT!!! That sounds like Spanish Harlem back in the summer(s) of '76-'77! Damn, that's a real hot 70's tune. And this is my first time hearing it just right now, so you know I had to play it MAD times (5 in a row to be exact). Man...to have only been in NYC during that late-70's/early-80's era...it was supercool to begin with, but watching local T.V.--with only 'bout 7-8 channels, at the minimum--back then must've been a real trip. Especially the news! This intro music just proves that.

  • About ten years earlier, they had a different news opener, when Bill Jorgensen was the anchor man. I moved out of WNEW's signal area by the end of the sixties, so all I remember is everything up to 1969 from that station. It used to be Dumont channel 5 when it first got started.

  • This is one of those things that you never think about yet when you hear it, it triggers an instant memory...

  • "Hoboken Welcomes Industry"

  • George George George of the Jungle?

  • One of the great New York news intros of all time.love that ticker noise!!!
