Canadian Pacific train 412 roars upgrade through Clark's Summit, about 6 miles north of Scranton, PA on the old D&H Main.

  • Is this the same line that ran up thru Thompson, PA or does it take another direction? I thought they pulled the tracks thru Thompson on out past Ararat? Used to live in Thompson, that's why I ask.

  • I think the line you're talking about is the old D&H Penn Division main which did get torn out. This is actually an old Erie Lackawanna Line. I can't remember why, but this line is now considered D&H (owned by Canadian Pacific).

  • The line through Clarks Summit was initially part of Conrail, but they didn't have any use for it so they sold it to the D&H in 1981. When D&H bought this line they had no use for the Penn Division (the grades on the Penn Div. were very severe) so they abandoned all of it by the mid 1980s.
