gaz, these were probably done with a dremel etcher (engraver) on acryllic (i'll be shopping for the dremel etcher tomorrow, which should be in the $25 range ~ don't confuse the etcher with the rotary tool, though). at the base are LEDs: the etched lines catch the light. i'll be investigating on whether this process is feasable for the trophy business my wife owns (wish i had a laser engraver! or at least an engraver that would do vector images ~ oh, well). anyway, hope that helps.
