I don't think that she is saying that to look smarter. In my opinion, she really mean it. The phrase that she refers, Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero, means "Seize the Day, putting as little trust as possible in the future". I read that, when she was 16, her best friend die in a fatal car crash. About that she said: "That was the hardest blow emotionally that I have ever had to endure.
