As part of the BBC Children's Festival in April, the BBC filmed an ongoing project set up by Age Concern and Help the Aged, where older people are using the Nintendo Wii to keep themselves active. Students at Bishop Perowne College challenged residents of Noel Court to a battle of the fittest in a Wii Bowl play-off - but how did they do?

  • This is wonderful, and I hope it spreads like wildfire. But for goodness sake! Here is a group of older women AND MEN, and they are being referred to as "Gaming Grannies". It's bad enough when all older women are lumped together as 'grannies', which they clearly are not, but to include men in the categorisation.... Come on, Help The Aged, surely you can do better than that. If it was me (and I am 81) I would rather be called "Gaming Oldies".

  • Sorry doody62465 - the BBC entitled the clip "Gaming Grannies" and we've had to keep the name.

You're right though, there's older men and women involved - and wherever we've funded a Nintendo Wii it's gone down a storm! It just shows age is no barrier to technology.

  • Looking from the outside in, seems to hold a bright future for me. All the people who joke, pick fun or negatively portray gamers in our society will fall. When i am pushing 60, when all the cool and hip adventures and activities are no longer sought after, this is the time when i will destroy old people. My life of gaming will dominate the 60+ gaming arena, I can't wait.
