This is Mandelbrot 3D fractal made by me. I wrote simple 3D ray-tracer in C++ which is adapt to render 3D fractals. For more details how to render 3D fractals go to http://www.fractalforums.com/3d-fractal-generation/true-3d-mandlebrot-type-fr...

  • So what's the formula? I've heard there is no real 3D Mandelbrot, but you may have just proven them wrong.

  • @truth14ful, yes, you are right. There is no formal definition of 3D Mandelbrot.

  • The standard set is a surface of rotation so is this a map of the absolute values or did you use some quaternion like derivative to generate a modified distance estimate for the 2 spheres ?

This is by far and away one of the best images of it I've seen.

    Thanx for posting it's great.

  • guys! Huge fan of fractal art for ages here. Do not let up with this project! Spiral out, keep going! This is literally the tip of the iceberg. I've been dreaming of this day for years. I will be following closely for updates on where you take this new discovery. WOW. JUST WOW!

  • where have you zoomed in? as far as i see, this is not a fractal at all, but a 3D likeness of the mandelbrot bug

  • Satans Toenail?

  • It looks cute and fuzzy :P

  • I think if you tried to touch this, your finger would disappear at the surface.

  • What if this thing could somehow be controlled remotely. I wonder what wold happen if it fell into a black hole? Would a tear in space-time appear? No, it would be a paradox. When you think about it, a 3-D Mandelbrot is a paradox in of itself.

  • See....now this actually LOOKS like a 3D Mandelbrot. This is just FANTASTIC!!! ....anybody else ever feel like one of those apes looking at the Monolith when they see these things? What the hell is this thing?! What do we DO with it!! lol...

  • @STNKbone my thought also but I imagined this as expansiontrate seen from outside , the end is the backside
