The following is a short clip (repeated three times) from the movie The White Bus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061181/). This was a short movie made in 1967 starring Arthur Lowe. It was based upon a story by Shelagh Delaney most famous for A Taste of Honey. It was a quite surreal movie which followed the adventures of a suicidal young secretary who experiences a hallucinatory tour of London on the open top bus tour of the Mayor Arthur Lowe. However, much of the film was shot in Salford including a one minute scene which sees a tour of Kersal Flats. The footage of Kersal Flats was shot from the roof of Chaucer Court.
The movie has never been commercially released so the quality of the film is less than perfect. There are some still images here and the full clip is in the movies section.

I need to see this film! Being a fan of all the people involved. This clip reminds me of going with my gran to Lilac court flats on Churchill way and the man telling us how great the flats were. And they were until the mid 80's when things started to go down hill.

Brilliant film. Replete with interesting symbolism. A film of ideas. Beautiful photography from Miroslav Ondracek. If it had been French, a nation who take cinema seriously as an art, it would be a world-renowned classic. Because it's British, who just show Carry On films on an endless loop on TV, it's scandalously forgotten and disgracefully neglected. All you can do is keep a look out for it on the MGM channel.

The shot of the bus coming round kersal Way was obviously filmed from Chaucer Court. My Nanna lived at 802......

The White Bus will be airing on Wednesday July 15th at 4:40 AM on MGMHD and again on Tuesday July 21st at 6:00 AM.
