John Huston filmed this documentary while serving with the U.S. Army Photographic Unit during World War II. Due to the fact that it dealt (unflinchingly) with what we now refer to as post-traumatic stress disorder, Army brass took one look at it and pulled it from circulation. It remained out of circulation for nearly thirty-five years until President Carter ordered that it be released.

  • Why does everyone look for evil intents of our government? I agree that some over zealous people want to show America in a good light of perfection but this was WWII and even the "evil Bush" administration could possibly be concerned for the families of the patients and the dead. I know that the present day media would not. Huston's film was very sensitive and respectful.

  • I've been looking for this for 10 years. Thanks so much.

  • It was banned, huh? The Bushies banned pictures of coffins and are democratic governments cover up the consequences of what they do...thanks for this.
