@nycsane - Without water you die. Alcohol is NOT necessary to live. Looking to improve heart function? Jog, or take fish oil or something lol. The drugs you mentioned are banned...99% if recreational drugs intoxicate...EXCEPT marijuana. The Qur'an forbids ANYTHING & ALL that INTOXICATES you for fun. Morphine for a tooth pulling is accepted for medicinal purposes. Taking morphine for fun is not...I would argue marijuana is accepted becuz it does NOT intoxicate and has health benefits.

@2411Mach Almost everything intoxicates in large amounts. For example vitamin E or C but it is necessary in small amounts. Marijuana is not mentioned in the quran because people probably didn't smoke marijuana back then. Islam is not timeless. Why? Because then it would ban things like slavery or MDMA (Ecstasy.) which came after Islam. It only applies to 7th centery arabia not 2012. Red wine has shown to benefit cardiovascular function by increasing HDL.

@unitasetmagus - The rule is: if the substance (alcohol, drugs, etc.) intoxcicates you in large amounts don't even take it in small amounts. Wine was mentioned here in there but the main concern is anything that alters the mind to the point that you cannot concentrate. 90% believe that marijuana is bad but the Qur'an doesn't state it, so it's something we can have discourse on. Islam is ever growing...and Jesus did not drink wine...Many Christian scholars have admitted to that...peace

Drinking, drinking responsibly, drinking irresponsibly, drinking & driving, being an alcoholic and being a teetotaller are all completely different things. Jesus drank whine and there was nothing wrong with it.
If you say that drinking alcohol is wrong because of few drunkards then you are saying that islam is wrong because of few terrorists. Do you really think so ?
Besides, there are drugs far more damaging than alcohol, yet your so-called prophet failed to warn against them.
