@nickstranger999 This all depends on your take of who is and isn't punk I guess. The most commercially successful band of the period were the stranglers and they certainly weren't influenced by the Ramones, having been around since 1974 themselves... Of course one may argue that the stranglers weren't punk, arguably because they could play too well, but they were certainly part of the scene...

@dggt Go further back....The Sonics were pioneers of punk rock style before the Kinks....Plus the lyrical content of the Sonics is much more 'punk' than the Kinks....Ever heard the song Strychnine? If thats not punk rock, I dont know what is. Not many people credit, or even know of the Sonics, but Id give then the title of punk pioneers. They had the energy and attitude and thats all punk is, if you get down to it.

THANK YOU for posting this! I've been a Damned fan for 25 years and this is some seriously awesome vintage footage! Never thought I'd see them doing a Pistols cover. Compare bands as you wish but each holds their own merit. The Damned = the best!

Um, what?!? The Damned released the first UK Punk single and the first UK Punk Album, beating out the Pistols, as well as being around as long as the Pistols. Most of the UK Punk bands were friends and many covered each others songs live for fun. And to finish your UK Punk history lesson, all of the UK bands were influenced by The Ramones first trip to the UK, including the Pistols.
