In 2008 all Gordon Ramsay wanted for his birthday was fish and chips in Lytham! The superstar chef took a break from filming his latest television series to visit Whelan's, one of the north wests most revered chip shops.
And the notoriously hard to please star of TVs Hells Kitchen and Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares was delighted with the food on offer. Gordon decided to visit after seeing that another celebrity chef, Rick Stein, had dined there previously, and enjoyed it so much he recommended them in his book, The Seafood Lovers Guide.
Gordon was quoted in local newspapers as describing his meal as Absolutely Excellent!
Whelans sister shop, The Cottage at Marton, is also well known as a favourite celebrity haunt, having attracted the likes of John Major, Jeremy Clarkson, and Gary Neville.
Last month, Whelans was voted one of Lancashires top fish and chip shops in the Seafish Quality Awards.
Also recommended by Rick Stein in his latest book Seafood Lovers' Guide, Whelns has recently been refurbished. Customers can now enjoy dining in comfortable surroundings on two levels and the restaurant is available for private parties.
Fish, chips & peas contain a lot of natural goodness. It's a balanced meal giving you protein, calcium, iron & vitamins C & A, it tastes good too!
Our wild, organic fish is of the finest quality, caught in well managed fisheries. Haddock with its fine flavour is the northern preference for fish & chips. Cod is succulent with chunky flakes.
Our batter is made to a light consistency and is allowed to stand before use.
Our Gourmet fish cakes are made with prime fish, potatoes, herbs, lemon or lime juice, then coated in brown breadcrumbs.
Quality local or Lincs Piper potatoes are fried at 150 degrees for 5 minutes then flash finished at 180 degrees.
Our computer controlled frying range maintains the pure vegetable oil in good condition - we filter twice daily.
We cater for coach and private parties
Enjoy your fish and chips!

Queued in the takeaway part, and we got asked about six times by five or six staff Polish serving behind the counter what do we want when we had already said to the first person that asked us. Also we ate one time in the restaurant part, and never again as the staff were cold and rude, and as for the portion size of chips it was less than a handfull if that, and even then they were like left overs; it was also very crammed in with mirrors everywhere.

@ukufo1: Most of them are Polish.

A colleague of Mrs Gruff's took her mother there for lunch and paid £27.00 for two portions of fish and chips, mushy peas and a slice of bread and butter, and a pot of tea for two.
We go to Seniors, just along the road, which is just as good, if not better, and considerably cheaper.

@Bilbone Inorganic fish is a type of fish, uncommonly seen in the wild, but seen commonly in fish breeding stations along hampshire in england, which are bread in a way so that they do not develop any organs so they are easier to guy. Scientists now try to breed out the bones of the fish too, for maximal comfort when eating.
