"If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace. Peace is bought with an exchange of advantage, so make the advantage and then settle. Don't ever defend. Always attack. Don't ever do nothing. Unexpected attacks in the rear of the enemy's front ranks work best." - L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, "Department of Governmental Affairs", 15 Aug 1960

You recognize an intellectual the moment you come across one; Dr. Szasz is very brilliant and tells it as it is.

Greatest living advocate of liberty.

excellent, as a young political and social satirist, i see this man as a source of inspiration. I must be sure to feature him in my comic strips in the coming months.

You would be very hard-pressed in finding an American who embodies so fully the greatest and purest American principles and ideals. God Bless Thomas Szasz. He is now quite old. 90 years old. We won't have him with us much longer. Enjoy and enrich and enlighten your life with his works.

Indeed. The vast majority of lay people believe in the mythical construct of there being "good drugs" and "bad drugs". anyone whose been through medical or pharmacology school can tell you there exists no such thing. All drugs -- ALL drugs have a therapeutic index. Whether it's children's aspirin or heroin, all drugs have a ratio between the dosage of a drug that causes a lethal effect and the dosage that causes a therapeutic effect. This is a guarded secret in "drug education" unfortunately.

I would qualify my earlier strident post. As apparently true as it might appear, this level playing field, in the ongoing war on drugs, one salient, observable fact exists. Namely, that the war asymmetrically targets race, and the socio-economically disadvantaged. The rates of prosecution and jail time are highest in the poorer demographics.

In light of the "true" nature of human beings, Szasz does not sugar coat the underlying motive for exclusion, persecution, and downright dirty dealing of humanity. The war on drugs is not a noble undertaking for the lives of future generations. It is not a battle of the forces of good over those of evil intent. It is a war of the powerful over the powerless. And the dominant ideology. Puritanism is alive and well. Idleness, intemperance, must be extirpated. Order must be restored.
