I was enjoying singing along (their register has lowered with age, as has mine) when all of a sudden at 2:08 there appears my heartthrob of all times -- Jimmy Clanton! What a treat! DooWopJoe, you're the best!

Thanks for the heads-up, DooWopJoe. I found it and listened to it. As much as I love Jimmy Clanton, I'm almost always disappointed by his performances of his hits. I don't think he realizes that the audience wants to hear the songs the way they remember them from "the good ol' days." He tends to change them up. I'm not sure why except that he must be bored of the songs. Nevertheless, he'll always be the heartthrob of all heartthrobs for me. ;)

In some cases, I think the artist is attempting to freshen the song for the listener. Dion did that very effectively, in my opinion, on his New Masters CD. In other instances, changes are made because the singer cannot hit the same notes they did 50 years ago.

I remember when this song came out. I was a wee lad. They sound just as they did five decades ago. The song is nothing less than a beautiful philosophical meditation on the brevity and poignancy of our human lives - a kind of celebration of our mortality. I loved it then, and love it now. Thanks for posting!
