Experience Oregon Caves National Monument
Deep inside the Siskiyou mountains lies the "Marble Halls of Oregon." The caves formed when acidic rainwater dissolved the surrounding marble, creating one of the few marble caves in the world. The Monument's ancient forests contain endemic Port Orford Cedar and one of the largest Douglas-fir trees in Oregon.
Another great day trip out of Gold Beach and perfect to combine with a trip to the Treesort. The Illinois river valley has some magical finds and the Oregon Caves national monument is at the top of the list. The historic Chateau is a great place to stay as you prepare to go underground in a cave. Hiking trails circle the lodge and the views from the top leave you breathless.
