@darkdanu89 True in those days without the strirrup or saddle, horse riding is not easy. A rider would have to hold the horse mane to keep himself balance. Horses were primarily used to draw chariots. Chariots were the main cavalry force before true cavalry became desicive in battles.

@ryler05 in regards to this battle, he was in fact inexperienced because he had never partaken in war before. The battle of Megiddo was his first campaign.

Actually you will be surprised to know that there was, in a very small proportion, horseback riding then. There is evidence in several tombs wich do show some egyptians riding. But riders were most likely used as scouts, as there were no stirrups or saddles, making fighting from a horse very hard.
The documentary however makes a mistake in depicting the syrian leaders on horseback. Ancient leaders, wheter they were assyrian, persian, egyptian, were on the more confortable chariots.

@shellsy515 that is not true. Horses were domesticated and used to ride on long before ancient Egypt prospered as a first major civilization.
