IN THIS SCENE: In 2003 Jan Ullrich and Lance Armstrong face off in a duel in Stage 19 of the tour on a rain soaked course. The outcome of the Tour hangs in the balance.

ABOUT THIS FILM: Le Tour de France, the toughest bicycle race of all celebrated its 100th birthday in 2003. Year after year this spectacular event fascinates millions of people worldwide. But within the beauty of the French coutryside and the tensions of the race, Academy Award Winner Pepe Danquart chose to illustrate the torture and the pain, the fear and the courage of the riders of the Tour.

In the process he captures the thrill of the race, the essence of the stunning landscape, and shines light on the Tour's supporting cast - the masseurs, managers, fans and more. Adding a fine sense of history, Hell on Wheels transcends the sport it celebrates to reveal an astonishing human endeavor.

Featuring the world's best bike racers - Lance Armstrong, Eric Zabel, Jan Ullrich, Tyler Hamilton, Alexandre Vinokurov, Andreas Klöden & more!

  • Do you people even know of Eddy Merckx or Bernard Hinault at all? Lance was good don't get me wrong but he wasn't the best... he didn't win 525 races or 11 grand tours like Merckx and a slew of other races. So please study up before you make statements like that

  • what is the best car? who is the best painter? who is the best driver? who is the best cyclist?

nobody can tell. of course you american guys can identify yourself with him, an that's okay. but i think in the whole history, eddy merckx was the most influental character....

  • @bikerdude5580 douchey!!

  • @Gre3njaw Yeah, because he used his cancer to take forbidden substances for free.

  • cool video ULLE all the way!

  • Armstrong, was able to get his Tour wins because of people like Dr. Ferrari. His V02 max of 82 is really low for a Grand Tour contender, goes to show how juiced up he has to get. Consider that Contador's is 88, Basso's is 87 & Ullrich's was 85.

  • @bikerdude5580 True, but Armstrong would have owned Mercks, Hinault, Copi, all of them, anytime.

  • @bikerdude5580 Eddy Merckx=greatest cyclist of all time

  • I meant to give a thumbs up... sorry about that

  • you can see the spark of ullrich's deraiileur on the road when he fell

  • Even though EPO use gives an improvement of 20%. 20% doesn't sound like a lot but multiplied over the length of the tour... 3500km = 700km LA beat them all. What a guy!

  • Some reports suggest that testicular cancer at a young age is linked to hormone abuse. Although I'm not suggesting that the great American, who defeated testicular cancer, would do such a thing. It speaks volumes of LA that he continually beat his peers, even when a lot of them were utilising artificial performance enhancers... David Millar, Tyler Hamilton, Danilo Di Luca, Marco Pantani, Folyd Landis, Gilberto Simoni, Ivan Basso, Alexander Vinokourov, Jan Ullrich...
