@trixwiz7 Thanks Trixwiz! I am not sure how much I even agree with that legal concept. In fact I'm pretty sure it's a grey area. In think you and I probably agree more than is immediately apparent ;)

@camgould I agree with you entirely that the Govts need to bankroll, incentivise and implement vastly improved social welfare reform for Indigenous people. We need to eliminate the gap b/w Non and Indigenous welfare for eg health, housing, education.
I appreciate your view that each Govt is in no way responsible for the last, it's a "unique institution", even if I disagree just slightly. I'm not sure which of us is correct in legal terms. Agree to disagree? You've great insight

@trixwiz7 I agree from a legal perspective. But also disagree with that perspective in this case. I believe we need to put mass-loads of funding into trying to reverse a lot of damage our forefathers did to the cultures established on the land before Europeans. However, I also believe that the people of your country establish the institution that run said country, via the electoral system. I believe this makes each new Government formed a unique institution.

@camgould You're quite right in saying that we're not personally responsible. You're also right that it's about everyone being sorry that this ever happened to anyone. But there is a bit more than that to this issue. The AusGovt was directly responsible for the displaced stolen generation, the failure to recognise Aborigines as citizens till the 60s, the failure to improve their social welfare and the slaughter of tens of thousands of Aborigines 1901-30s. So they had to apologise as organisation

@grunt182820 you raise a good point, and many other people have never had to say sorry for doing as bad or worse. but by acknowledging what's wrong we benefit in two ways; 1) we relieve our guilt (or in this case, the nation's guilt). 2) we ensure that people don't get fucked over again, at least not in Australia

@steph131267 I don't think you are really the kind of person who would be smart enough to extrapolate anything about Australia pre-European invasion.
"good of what's bad" ...lol... what a dunce.

@grunt182820 You may have nothing personally to say sorry for, but we all do as a people. Besides, it wasn't about APOLOGISING for OUR actions. It was about saying 'SORRY this ever happened to anyone'
Indigenous refers to where your ancestry come from. It's an almost defunct word really. But no, you are not 'indigenous' to QLD.
