Just how wide is the Canon 10-22mm? Well, I was actually asking myself the same question before I purchased this ultra-wide EF-S lens. To visually convey the focal length of this lens we will compare it to the very popular Canon 50mm f1.4. Hopefully this video demonstration will help those of you that are interested in either one of these great lens. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via Twitter.

  • @MattieCooper

    No.

  • I love the 10-22mm lens :-)

  • do you think the 10-20mm is better than than the 17-40mm

  • if you look at the top of the window frames in the far corners (at 10mm) you can see clearly a lot of chromatic aberration.

  • EF-S lenses don't work because their rear element is built to be closer to the sensor on an ASP-C camera. On a full frame body that element will hit the mirror and can damage the sensor. That closeness is also why crop sensors have wider angle lenses. As for the crop factor (I hate that term), the only thing the smaller sensor size does is it will show a smaller area of the scene compared to a full frame. The focal range won't change.

  • @Whatisright That assumption is true. If I have a 5DmII with a 50mm lens, and my brother has a 60D with a 30mm lens, the subject will look practically identical for both of us due to the 1.6x crop factor. All a longer lens does is increase the size of the subject, and perhaps knock out the background more.

It's a fairly basic concept that everyone should keep in mind when looking for lenses and cameras to buy. That's also why EF-S lenses don't work properly on full-frame.

  • All I was saying is some people seem to take it as the lens will allow you to see farther. I've seen people argue that there is no need to buy a 135mm lens if an 85mm can do the same thing.
