CINCINNATI (Deb Dixon) -- Do you believe in coincidences? Detectives investigating the murders of two 14-year-olds a month apart think there may be just too many coincidences to accept. Both freshman in high school, Treyvaughn Everett was shot and killed in Avondale over the weekend. Less than a month ago Dewayne Lewis was found shot to death in South Fairmount. Neither young man was killed where they live. Local 12 News reporter Deborah Dixon shows us why that's another link. At both crime scenes police talked about how young the murder victims looked even before they knew they were just 14. Dwayne Lewis was shot to death on a remote street in South Fairmount last month. Trevaughn Everette was shot while visiting his mother in Avondale. Is it too much of a coincidence that 14-year-old murder victim Everett lived where 14-year-old Lewis lived just one building away?Asst. Chief Paul Humphries of the Cincinnati Police said, When you have two fourteen year olds shot a month apart and find out addresses are close and they probably knew each other, is that a coincidence? That is something for us to investigate. Trevaugn's aunt does not think there is a connection even though the boys were neighbors they went to different high schools. She said, Not a connection, I didn't think so. I think Trevaugn was with his mama at the wrong spot at the wrong time. The wrong place was a park at Hickory and Harvey in Avondale. Everett and a friend were supposed to meet girls there Saturday. When they didn't show Everett started firing a gun in the air. Then he was shot dead.Capt. Eliot Isaac said, We're hearing other things possibly how this occurred. Right now we have not be able to verify these tragedies are connected.A 24-year-old man was charged in the shooting death of Lewis. But police believe there are more people involved in that crime who have not yet been arrested.
