I had opportunity to take a private lesson with Sherry Kluever on Friday, January 18, 2008. Sherry assessed where Blast and I stood in terms of contact performance, teeter, weaves and jumping. Sherry suggested I nip Blast's tendency to jump flat in the bud by working him on jump chutes.
We have a six phase program that we'll be working on over the next few months. Phase 1 will work us up to 5 jumps, 12' to 15' apart (distance consistent between jumps), set at 24". Once Blast is solid on this exercise with me being able to do recalls, running alongside or racing him, we will move on to Phase 2.
Today's exercises include an exercise we did earlier this week during the second meeting of Agility 2. That exercise consisted of a jump chute comprised of four jumps, set at 20", 4' apart. Both side and front/rear views show up in the video. Later you see our start of Phase 1 of our jumping program (4 jumps, 24" , 4' apart). Both variations gave us the rounded jumping style that will be to our advantage later on. We'll be moving to 24" exclusively in practice after today.
Wow! Really well-behaved dog! My dog is just now learning stay (she's 19 months old) and you have to say "stay, stay, stay, stay, stay" as you're walking away. she's really smart though (a golden retriever) and is doing great! She also knows sit, shake, play dead, and lie down.

We did these same exercises with my Border Collie in a private and at 7' apart her takeoff point was the same as her landing point and she's never really been a flat jumper, but we still do the exercises to keep her jumping in shape. GREAT JOB WITH BLAST!!
