' You Have Lived' comes from 'Homeless Brother' - no, not me, but Don McLean's 5th album, which was released in 1974.
The album was dedicated to Hobos (american tramps), the word apparently being short for Homeless Brothers.
The New Musical Express (UK Music Paper) said in their review of the album :
"'You Have Lived' opens dreamily and stringily, like an advert for Summer County margarine, and is probably written for the same audience as 'And I Love You So'; as such it's very successful, expect Perry Como to pick up on it without delay."
Very many thanks to 'K' for kindly supplying the sound file and also to the person who wrote to me requesting this song as I had forgottten how good it was.
.
I love don, his songs will love on for generations to come. 'Vincent' and 'American Pie' are my top two favorites, but seriously where in the world can you find a bad Don McLean song. All of his songs are so deeply written and emotionally sung. Nobody today can write a song, or a sing a song like Don.

This is just one example that makes me understand so well why was "Killing Me Softly" written about Don. His voice, his words, his playing - they all just cut something so deep inside me... They reach some place in me I didn't even know was there.

Thank you for posting this. I have been a fan since 'Pie' and have seen Don perform live twice. He is and continues to be amazing. Does anyone know who this song was written about?

I am a big McLean fan, and really love the power of this song, but in all honesty, Helen Reddy was born to sing it.

I thought "In the Beginning (Genesis)" was amazing.
But this... no words.
