  • Graphite can actually "gum up" and cause a key to work worse than it did before.

I would suggest a product that lubricates and leaves a teflon or silicone residue to keep it lubricating over time.

  • You may also want to contact the major manufacturers of graphite lubricant as they specifically make it for keylocks (and pine wood derby cars).

Using a liquid like lubricant such as WD40 or even a silicone product will cause dust particles to collect more easily on the door lock mechanism.

  • Do you ever think that you would do a video on installing a pet door in a metal door?

  • I typically do videos on projects that I am doing around my homes. I don't think, however, that I will be doing one on installing a pet door even though my wife has pushed for one over the years.

It's not the worst thing that people can use, but as a locksmith, i would discourage the use of it in lieu of better products out there.

Graphite as a lock lubricant isn't really an industry thing, and though it can and will work, people may overdo it and cause their hardware to actually stick because of it; especially when the moisture gets to it.

Aerosols available will drip out excess and evaporate, leaving a thin coating on moving parts.
