  • One other safe feature that should be noted on a 1911. When the safety is engaged with the hammer back, the safeties round cam fits into a rounded cutout in the hammer. Even if you were to remove the sear in this condition the hammer could not fall due to the safeties cam being in its way. The cam prevents the hammer from dropping even with sear failure. The only time a total failure could occur is if the cam on the safety breaks off which is close to impossible.
