@Aphesia That's a good point. There's no real national law on changing gender in a honseki/toseki. From what I've heard it's very case by case and depends on the bureaucrat you get at your city/ward office.

@HomleandSecurity It's common courtesy to refer to transgender people as their preferred gender. Cisgender people have the privilege of having the correct gender and sex assigned at birth. But transgender people aren't so lucky. Therefore, it's just a nice thing to do. Maybe you don't know anyone who is transgender but it's extremely offensive to them to be referred to as the wrong gender (since gender in is the brain). It's almost like a slap in the face. So, please be polite.
