A very common thing that I'm told by religious people is that to be gay is to be sad forever. However what seems to elude them all is that the sadness I experience as a gay man is because of the culture that I live in caused by them. I'm sad because of how we are stigmatized in our social culture. When I wake up I don't think "Oh man I'm gay, fuck life," I think "Oh man, I wonder if my neighbor who hates me because I'm gay will be outside to glare at me when I get in my car to go to work."
