It is probably best to live as though you will.

It is not to say there isn't any light though, over time the dragons could be slayed, but it will have to be more in a manner of acupuncture than a shot to the jugular. We are little Lilliput's and the enemy is a Brobdingnag. Each of us that reaches our highest levels of motivation to self-teach will drive a little pin in the machines flesh. With enough pins, we will be able rule the machine instead of it ruling us. These will be better days. Hopefully we will somehow get to experience them.

But we are in a situation where what is needed for the individual to grow is damaging to the machine that individual is born in desperation to run. If you pay enough money or are born into the right circumstances, you will have a chance to acquire or be passed down these values and tools. Look at all the past tragedy of history and know you are still on the bottom steps, far from any summit before any road to higher values will even start to be paved.

@apicciano Thanks, Yes they do have a responsibility, but they are ultimately run through the Government, which has its agendas and must protect itself. To do this certain perspectives of truth and methods to find truth cannot be implemented or taught. They would be self defeating to the institution. Values are by far the most important aspect of bringing an individual to a new level. Most importantly the value of an obsessive motivation of self teaching and honest reflection.

Values are being taught in schools. The diversity movement is based in the values of democracy and respect for people including their differing races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. This is one of the most essential value systems to have in our multi-cultural world because it discourages the domination of one culture.

i support that about teaching values. however values change with time and which value is to teach is difference related to area and the community. i think it is better to base the values by refering to the community then without the values been teach at school at all. however have to be careful to not make it a brainwash classes but rather to make the curricular more toward and open subject and make student to think. salam peace.
It is in an individuals best interest to be taught to think for themselves which is the product of a multitude of values. This deals with an awareness of ones emotions, a reflection on emotions, critical thinking and problem solving skills and rational decision making based on the possible outcomes of decisions. This process could be stressed in schools though not using optimal methods due to political issues. It is not, right now anyway, in US the best interest to supply all citizens with this.

I appreciate your taking the time to post on the teaching of values in public schools. It is a difficult issue to say the least but I do believe that the schools have some responsibility here.

I agree with you. In my video, I conclude with the question: Whose values do we teach? The best answer to this might be the school community's values as you suggest. However, this might be easier in homogeneous communities than in large diverse, multicultural communities such as exist in many of our large cities.
