Story by: Linda Jerke

Barton Community College sophomores Morgan Cooper and Jared Marcuson were named Queen and King of Bartons 2010 Basketball Homecoming on Feb. 13. They were crowned during the intermission between the womens and mens basketball games against Butler.

Cooper, Wichita, is a graduate of Rossville High School. At Barton, she is involved in Student Senate and the Community Service Organization, and she is a member of Bartons volleyball team. She was nominated for homecoming queen by the Barton Student Senate. A nursing major, she plans to continue playing volleyball while completing a bachelors degree in nursing and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner degree. She is the daughter of Nancy Johnson and Jack Cooper.

Marcuson, Oberlin, is a graduate of Decatur Community High School. At Barton, he is a Student Ambassador and serves as Student Senate vice president. He also is a member of Hilltop Singers. He was nominated for homecoming king by the Student Ambassadors. He was named Barton Ambassador of the Year as a freshman. A political science major, he plans to continue his education at Kansas State University. He is the son of Brad and Elaine Marcuson and the grandson of Gail and Kay Marcuson, all of Oberlin.

As part of Bartons 40th anniversary celebration, the colleges 2010 homecoming had a 1970s theme. Those attending were encouraged to dress in 1970s fashion. Crowning the King and Queen was Bartons 1972 homecoming queen, Corrine Hartig Boor, Hoisington, who was escorted by Bartons mascot, Bart.

Honored as homecoming finalists were Amie Neal, Wichita; Ethan Deckert, Larned; Kayla Simmons, Great Bend; Dennan Morrow, Larned; Kelsey McGuire, Ottumwa, Iowa; Colin Beatty, Lanham, Md.; Annie Kassongo, Geneva, Switzerland; Charles Santy, Fort Hood, Texas.
