SelectPlusFear of Flooding Continues in ChinaFear of Flooding Continues in ChinaThe Associated PressChinese officials say the need to drain an earthquake formed lake is becoming extemely important. If the dam were to break, a million homes could be at risk for flooding. (June 9)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Crisis level ... That is what Chinese officials are saying an earthquake-made lake is becoming. A channel is funneling water downstream, but the water has no where to go. And water levels in the newly formed lake are rising past dangerous levels. This lake was created following a landslide after last month's earthquake. And as more rain falls, and more aftershocks can be felt -- the pressure on the dam grows. On Monday, the Chinese government sent 120 more soldiers to help a crew blasting away the debris. They are using explosives and anti-tank weapons to break up anything that could be blocking the channel. Officials say its important to have the water recede slowly, because if the dam were to burst: more than a million homes would be at risk for flooding. The Chinese government says the chances of that happening remain low. ___ ___, The Associated Press.(****END****) ANCHOR VOICE:-------------------------VIDEO PRODUCER: Kevin White------------------------------VIDEO SOURCE: APTN--------------------------VIDEO APPROVAL:------------------------------VIDEO RESTRICTIONS: No Access China----------------------------------SCRIPT/WIRE SOURCE:------------------------------------
